THE ALTAR BOYS
altar boys used to be “big” up to some decades ago in chania. an altar boy was always visible to the world. He stood close to the priest on churches which were full of people. only priests and altar boys can enter the sanctuary. the teenagers who were chosen to be altar boys were supposed to be from good families, should behave well and be clean. boys became altar boys so they could meet girls and it was also a good way for people to learn about you. in the past years, the role of religion in chania as in all of greece is declining and so is the will of teenagers to become altar boys.
